Effortlessly combining elements of Drum & Bass, Hip Hop, Jungle and Footwork, this EP is a perfect representation of all that is right with underground dance music, bringing tough beats, massive basslines and plenty of swagger, this well-rounded package is one that will surely have Levrige’s name on the lips of Junglists worldwide.
This 4 track EP wastes no time getting into the action, and it’s namesake, “Diamonds” comes with a cheeky vocal sample and big boombap beats, which promptly drops into a massive, dark bassline and evolving synthesizers, building alongside sweeping effects. A textural and unassuming dancefloor killer. Next up we have “Phantom”, a steppy hybrid homage to classic warehouse Jungle. Big “dominator” stabs, punchy 808 subs and an infectious kick pattern accompanies classic breakbeat edits. This is a catchy cut that you’ll have a heard time getting out of your head, “Stutter“ brings the intensity levels up to 12 . With a monstrous bassline over-top of an exciting kick sequence that lends itself to modern footwork, while the half-time swing and cleverly edited breakbeats and vocals, glue the composition together in unique and exhilarating ways. Lastly, “Sting Ray” is another throwback neck-snapper, set in a modern context, fusing a big mid bass, reminiscent of golden-era Drum & Bass, with a chugging half-time beat and clever percussion stabs.
